1. PLACES / CATTUS ISLAND MAIN TRAIL
This gem of a park is perfect for all ages. While this area can be windy almost year round it also is enjoyable too. Park in lot and head towards the nature center but walk along the backside where the rangers park and head down the trail towards the water. This is the first “open” section of the marsh. You’ll also notice Osprey nesting platforms. Follow this main trail as it weaves along the marsh on both sides. You’ll be nestled amongst Oaks, Maples and Pines which means fall color is spot on! The island trail bumps into the main trail 4 different times. Just stay on the main road and enjoy the changes of scenery. Once past the last intersection you’re in the next opening. It’s almost like you’re on a stranded island section with the section of dead trees and tall reed grasses. At the end of the road you’ve reached the end of the trail. You can keep walking along the beach and enjoy the nearly 360 degree views of Barnegat and Silver Bays. Retrace your steps to return back…but you MUST visit the nature center. It’s been redone and it’s glorious!
