1. PLACES / BIG LAGUNA TRAIL (HALF)
The Big Laguna Trail is a beautiful trail in Mt. Laguna that has lovely views of the lake, pine trees, big boulders to climb on, grass fields, and usually cows! The half loop is roughly 3 nearly flat miles while the full loop is 6-7 nearly flat miles. This trail has partial shade so it is great year round. They can get snow in the winter, so make sure you are prepared. To park inside the campground you will need to pay a small day use fee. There are bathrooms near the trailhead. The trailhead starts at the end of the El Prado group campground. There will be many forks in the trail, but as long as you stay straight or to the right, you are going the right way. You ways want the forested hill to your right and open field to your left. This field is often where you will find cows, so keep an eye out! After about a mile you will get to Big Laguna Lake. Keep right so the lake is always to your left. If you wanted to do the longer Loop, you would continue past the lake, then turn right and hug the lake all the way around. You get equally beautiful views, so we prefer the shorter loop instead. The trail will start to weave in and out of the forest as you continue with the lake to your left and hill to your right. About a mile down you will see a trail to your right. Take that trail which will go through the forested hill and eventually back to the trailhead.
