1. PLACES / BABYLON ARCH
Make your way to Sand Cove Campground in Google Maps to start out. Babylon Arch isn’t a very well marked trail so the campground parking lot is actually the entry point. From there you will walk on little trail to get to the actual BLM land, undeveloped campground. No potties out here so be prepared. This trail offers fun sand dunes to climb and rock scrambling options and little mini toddler sized slots that are appropriate for young children. The views are beautiful and the trail is fairly flat out to the main rock area. The actual arch can be a little tricky to find so make sure you pay close attention to how you are hiking and follow rock cairns and signs. The final descent to the arch is a steep sandy hill. Remember you have to be able to get back up it if you go down and you might be carrying a little one, so be prepared. If you don’t make it to the final arch, the trail is still fun to hike to the final descent. Look for trail signs along the way and rock cairns for directions.

Helpful Trail Information

Natural Play Area and Viewpoint Beautiful sandy hills to climb and great sticky sandstone rocks that are perfect for small children to scramble around on. There are also pack horses often riding through, which is fun to see. Make sure you bring a carrier if you are going down to the arch because the climb back up is brutal if your kiddo decides not climb the sand hill.

Parking Details

Super easy to park here and it’s never crowded. No fee that I know of, although you might want to put your National Parks pass in the window because this area falls under federal jurisdiction. Parking lot is sandy and road out can be rough if it has just rained, so consider 2-wheel drive on nicer days and all wheel if rain is in the forecast.
