1. PLACES / AUGUSTA CANAL-SAVANNAH RAPIDS PAVILION TRAILHEAD
This is a beautiful area. It’s one of the end points of the Augusta Canal. You can choose to do the headgate loop walking on the paved trail from the parking lot, across the lock & dam, viewing the Savannah River. The path than travels between the river and the canal. Upon reaching the bridge that crosses over the canal, you may choose to cross over & go back up to the parking lots. You may also choose to continue down the trail for as long as you wish. There are several access points to the canal, it is well liked amongst locals for walking, biking & running. The headgate loop is roughly a mile, if you continue on you can do whatever distance you wish. The trail is a dirt, stroller friendly wide path. Watch for runners and bikers, it is a popular heavy trafficked trail on nice days.
